The Internship

The initial idea of the film is that two guys in the prime of their life (between 30 and 40) get an internship at google where they have to put up with "modern" young adults and all kind of "modern" stuff like internet, apps, instagram... And the film succeeds in using most of the subject that comes out of this comical situation to turn it into a quit good film. But the initial story idea which is phenomenal funny in my opinion turns into a worn down, often used story line where the underdogs built a team and the group has to compete in a (ala hunger games, or as it is said in the film "mental hunger games") competition. And in the end they magically win it even though it is often pointed out that they have no chance to succeed or what so ever. But all together the story is still good for a film with heart and a message which is transported to the audience in a comfortable way. Something many films do not succeed in at all.

Some unnecessary additions to the story, like the guy with the headphones could have been left out totally as they do not hold an important place. The same theory applies to the unnecessary attempts on establishing relationships and coupes in the film. Do not get me wrong, it is not that some of the relationships do not have heart or are totally embarrassing but I thing all the attempts on creating couples is just rushed through and unnecessarily stretches out the length of the film (its over 2 hours long).

The acting performance, especially of the main characters is quiet bad and I found myself often thinking that with other actors this film could have even been better. In relation to the cast and also the story of the film it also needs to be pointed out that the young cast gives the film some easiness and sleaziness. No one in the young cast really stands out as the best but that does not mean that they are bad. İts just has been a real good move from the producers to share the load of freshness (to be provided for the film to work) of young cast between the 5-7 young cast members. The by far best acting performance comes from the Roger the "chef" with whom Vince Vaughn wants "to crab a cold one", but this greatness could also just come from the great Indian ascent, in that case the casting has to be praised for this good decision.

In conclusion the film gets all his magic from a good initial idea, a often used story remade, the energy and appeal of the young cast. But I can also understand the people getting uneasy about the not good told story and the bad acting performance.
