On the other side of the courtyard the swordsmen were practicing. The prince recognized some of them from above. Not because of their faces because they were hidden behind their golden helmets but because of their movements and fighting styles. The prince fought against each of them at least once and most of the time he was on the verge of losing these fights. But the prince himself was a skilled fighter. He was quicker than most of them but sometimes lacked in strength. But what is undeniably true is that the prince was a master of the technic of the sword fight. Even not strongly delivered blows from the prince could be deadly because of their precision. A skill the prince was going to use in the few hours that lay ahead of him. The undead army could already be seen from the castle walls and his father was already riding hard to give them the first taste of the so elegantly curved swords of the Western men.
In Warlords the player can choose from a huge variety of different races that all combat to rule the whole empire. Each faction has a different set of strengths and weaknesses and each race also has a different special unit which gives the game a great replayeble character.
In my opinion the general game mechanic is not based on the straight forward "rock, paper, scissor" principle or this principle is hidden very well. Which leads to a (for browser games) unseen depth in tactic development. Which I am going to explain in detail, so you can see what the greatness of this game is about.
-General tactic:
- Speed:Use low cost units who have good speed and are produced fairly sulky. In the battels distribute your fast units over the whole map not more than 3 in one line. Even if you are going to lose some lines to the stronger units of the enemy it is quiet easy to counter this loses with your fast units that get through without being touched.
- Strengths: If done right it leads to quickly finished battels
- Weaknesses: Your weak units are generally no match for the special units and stronger units of your enemy, which may lead to many charges of the enemy team
- Power:Use expensive units who are strong but slow and slow to produce. Concentrate on 1 or 2 lines of the map. Do not think about the enemy units getting through the other lines as most of the time the computer player will try to counter your charges on the overcrowded lines. And then it’s your strong units against his!
- Strengths: İf you get together 3-4 strong units in one line they form a nearly invincible shield for the units behind.
- Weakness: Battels are won mainly with the time which leads to a fairly long (and sometimes boring) play time. In general the defense is not that great with this general tactic.
Battel specific tactic (adapet to enemy units and playstyle)
-defend: Useful against enemies whose units are weaker than yours.
Just concentrate on not letting any enemy through.
- attack (push!):Useful if the enemy has (and often uses) stronger units than you. As all the strong and special units take considerable more time to produce they can never be used to defend only to attack and force the other player in to making errors. Because if you want to counter the strong units with your weak units you do not get any units across the map and even worse the enemy gets a ton of kills which he uses than to bring in charges. So the Attack (push!) tactic is used against this tactic. Just let the lines where the strong (and special units) are out and conecntrate on the free lines. As the units of the enemy need more time to be produced there will always be at least 4 lines free for your men to charge through. With fast built and fast moving units get as much over the free lines as possible to balance and even overbalance the enemies you let trough.
Upgrade and units selection tactic:
- Overpower tactic:
Only upgrade the race specific unit and amour.
No need for buying new units. (Can be used to get more variety in if always using the same unit is getting boring)
- No favorite’s tactic
Upgrade amour and speed.
Buy as many additional units as possible. Find out which units fights better against others. Counter attacks with the right unit.
In conclusion this browser game is got for at least 3-4 hours of fun which is quiet good for a free to play browser game. This huge amount of playtime is mainly due to the huge repayable factor which comes from the great variety in units and races and the ability to use different tactics each game.
